On 16 March 2026, as spring was in full swing, the Shanghai Soong Ching-ling Foundation’s Beethoven Music Special Fund No. 001 ‘Beethoven Music Classroom’ was officially launched at Shanghai Qingpu Xujing No. 1 Primary School!!!

This marks a significant step forward in the Special Fund’s mission to promote equitable and widespread music education for young people since its official launch in January this year. During the brief 20-minute ceremony, applause intertwined with piano melodies, and compassion resonated with hope, opening up new possibilities for the musical dreams of this school and countless children.

The event commenced amidst elegant piano melodies. As a ‘representative of future musicians’, Lu Zhou Tong sat poised at the piano, her fingertips weaving a bright and infectious melody. The music echoed through the newly refurbished music classroom, setting a warm tone for the entire event. This piece was not merely a display of individual talent; it symbolised the official launch of musical aspirations, highlighting the Foundation’s social responsibility to nurture future musicians through a professional system, whilst setting an example for all the school’s children and illuminating their path to growth.

Zeng Xiao, the initiator of the special fund, stated that the ‘Beethoven Music Classroom Project’ aims to focus on schools with significant gaps in music education resources, supporting the development of music education facilities and curricula within schools. The music classroom inaugurated at Xujing No. 1 Primary School represents yet another concrete realisation of this initiative within Shanghai. She noted that the significance of music education lies not merely in cultivating performers, but in nurturing character through music and empowering personal growth. She expressed the hope that this classroom would provide more children with the opportunity to experience the charm of music up close and discover a broader world through melody.

Shi Guoliang, Deputy Town Mayor of Xujing, delivered a speech on behalf of the local government. He expressed his gratitude to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the team behind the special fund for their charitable initiative, emphasising that Xujing Town has always placed great importance on quality education and the development of campus culture. The inauguration of this music classroom is not only an honour for the school but also injects new resources and vitality into the town’s aesthetic education. He urged the school to make good use of this platform, ensuring that music becomes a trusted mentor and friend accompanying the children’s healthy growth.

The event then moved on to its central highlight: the plaque presentation ceremony. Amidst enthusiastic applause, Ms Zhu Yaping, Senior Advisor to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, presented the ‘Beethoven Music Classroom’ plaque to Sun Li, Principal of Xujing No. 1 Primary School. This moment marked the official opening of the classroom and signified the seamless integration of the special fund’s charitable resources with the educational practices of this century-old institution.

Children’s Voices: The Children’s Stage and Smiles

For Youth Beethoven China

The children’s performance served as the most vivid testament to this occasion. Student representatives from the school took to the brand-new stage to present their carefully prepared programme. Whilst their performance may have been somewhat unpolished, their focus and dedication were precisely the most moving reward of music education. The children’s singing and smiles allowed every guest present to feel the power of philanthropy taking root. In this brand-new music classroom, the musical dreams of many more children are quietly setting sail.
